Alice’s Tips for a Great Shampoo + Style

In Uncategorized on February 5, 2013 at 4:30 am

So many of us shampoo our hair by squirting anything out of the nearest bottle on our heads, standing in a shower, and calling it done once the bubbles stop running over our face. Of course, there’s more to it than this, which is why the best part of any salon visit is having your hair shampooed (admit it – that’s half the reason you go). Believe it or not, giving yourself the best shampoo begins far before you even touch your hair:

1. Know your hair type and buy the right products for your hair. At Alice Hair, our team of stylists can take the guesswork out of what you need and pick the perfect products for your hair type.

2. Prepare your hair! Use lukewarm water on your hair and finger comb it gently apart. Warm – not hot! – water will open up the pores (your scalp is skin, after all). A healthy scalp helps you have pretty hair.

3. Use just what you need, not what you’re “used” to using! Not all hair products are created equal, and high quality products (like Bumble & Bumble) are more concentrated, so you don’t need to use very much. A quarter-sized dollop of shampoo usually does the trick.

4. When using conditioner, use it sparingly and on the ends first, working towards your scalp. If your hair is especially dry or in need of repair, do not skip conditioner, or your hair will not look smooth and healthy. When you’re finished, rinse your hair with cool water. This helps tighten up your pores and locks in moisture.

5. Take special care of your wet tresses! Don’t wring out your hair like it’s a wet towel, and use your fingers or a wide comb to carefully work out any tangles. Spray and comb through Bumble & Bumble Prep or Tonic to prepare the hair for products.

6. Finally, apply the products your stylist has recommended. If you aren’t sure how to use a product, just ask! We want to make sure that you know how to recreate your style at home, so make sure you feel equipped to do this before you leave the salon with education and products.

The Right Tools for Great Style

In Uncategorized on April 23, 2012 at 4:34 pm

Love the way your hair looks when you leave the salon, but feel like you’re not able to replicate your style at home?

You’re probably not using the right tools and products for your hair. While your stylist does have training and skills that you may not have, their secret is using professional grade tools that are suited to your hair type.

If you think that any old brush or dryer will do, then look no further than your next visit to Alice Hair to set yourself up for success when replicating your style at home.

We sell a large variety of professional grade brushes in every size and shape under the sun. They’re not all created equal, so your stylist will be able to send you home with the correct brush for the style they’ve created.

Also, don’t think that hairdryer from 2003 is still doing the job. It’s time to upgrade, either with one of the great low-price blowdryers on the market right now (we like Babyliss), or with one of the Wella or Turbo Twin professional grade dryers we sell at Alice Hair.

You’ve already invested in a new cut and/or color. Now it’s time to maintain that style between visits to maximize your investment and enjoy your hair every day, not just when you’re walking out of the salon.

**All products listed are Bumble & Bumble.

Product Recipe for Curly Hair:

Wash and condition your hair with Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner to add both volume and shine. Towel dry hair and spray with Prep styling spray, then comb out tangles with your fingers. Distribute a small amount of Leave-In Conditioner through the hair, and then blowdry or allow the hair to dry naturally. Once the hair has dried, spray it lightly with Does It All Spray for extra protection against heat, and use your new iron to create extra curl, as demonstrated in this video:

Finish the style with Does It All Spray for hold.

Recipe for Straight Hair

Wash and condition with Straight Hair and Conditioner. Towel dry, spray with Prep styling spray, and comb through tangles with a wide-toothed comb. Distribute a small amount of Straight Blow Dry balm through the hair, and blow dry using a round brush for body. When the hair has completely dried, lightly spray hair with Does It All Spray for protection, and run the iron slowly over each piece of hair you’d like to straighten, from the roots to ends. Finish with a mist of Does It All Spray.

IMPORTANT: Never use an iron on wet hair. Make sure hair is completely dry before applying heat.

Enjoy!
